Unit Information Game Strategies History

Spearmen are the Iroquois unique Heavy Infantry of the Ancient Age Ancient Age. Like all infantry, Spearmen are trained and upgraded at the Barracks, replacing the standard Hoplites. Besides the researching of Military Military 1 (The Art of War) in order to build a Barracks, there is no requirement for recruiting Spearmen.

Overview Edit

Spearmen have the same base stats as the Hoplites they replace. However, the Iroquois Power of Nation makes them superior to standard Hoplites, as they benefit from +5% hit points, the ability to heal in friendly territory when not moving or attacking, and stay hidden in friendly territory if not attacking. They also have an undocumented benefit shared with most Iroquois units, which is a +25% movement speed bonus in any territory. In addition, Hoplites have a 12% damage penalty against buildings, but the Iroquois Spearmen do not, making them better for Ancient Age rushes.

Unit Costs Edit

Note: Edit

The unit base cost is of 50 Food Food, 30 Metal Metal, as with subsequent upgrades. However, since this resource is not avaliable in the Ancient Age, recruiting Spearmen costs a larger amount of Timber Timber instead. Once the Classical Age Classical Age is reached, Metal Metal will be available and the cost will reflect it.

Unit production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Food Food and 1 Metal Metal for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is +125% of their original base value. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.

Version Notes Edit

Prior to version version, Spearmen had +3 moves compared to standard Heavy Infantry. Also, the national bonus for Barracks units was of +10% instead of +5% hit points.
