Spearmen are the Iroquois unique Heavy Infantry of the Ancient Age. Like all infantry, Spearmen are trained and upgraded at the Barracks, replacing the standard Hoplites. Besides the researching of Military 1 (The Art of War) in order to build a Barracks, there is no requirement for recruiting Spearmen.
Iroquois Spearmen have the same basic stats as the Hoplites they replace. However, the Iroquois Power of Nation make them superior to standard Hoplites, as they benefit from +5% hit points, the ability to heal in friendly territory when not moving or attacking, and stay hidden in friendly territory if not attacking; as well as an undocumented benefit of most Iroquois units, which is a +25% movement speed bonus in any territory. In addition, Hoplites have a 12% damage penalty against buildings, but the Iroquois Spearmen do not, making them better for Ancient Age rushes.
Unit Costs Edit
Unit production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Food and 1 Timber for the second unit created, and grows exponentially from then on. Once the Classical Age is reached, all costs in Timber will be replaced by Metal. Upgrading this unit costs double the base cost of the unit it will upgrade to; this means that the upgrade to Mohawk Spearmen has a cost of 100 Food, 60 Metal. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
Version Notes Edit
Prior to version version 03.02.12.0800, the Iroquois' entire unique Heavy Infantry line had +3/+4/+5/+6 moves compared to standard Heavy Infantry, instead of the current +1/+1/+1/+1 moves. Also, the national bonus for Barracks units was of +10% instead of +5% hit points.
