Pikemen Square

European style Pikemen standing in a square formation.

Pikemen are the standard Heavy Infantry of the Medieval Age Medieval Age, avaliable to upgrade from Phalanx as soon as the age is reached. Like all infantry, Pikemen are trained and upgraded at the Barracks.

Overview Edit

After Phalanx become Pikemen, they gain +25 hit points, +2 attack strength, and +1 Line of Sight. They can be used somewhat effectively against buildings, but the new, sturdier Large Cities of the age tend to offer decent protection against them, so they are not as effective in that role compared to the Heavy Infantry of past ages. However, they are still the best solution to face enemy Heavy Cavalry, and will also take down Light Cavalry and Infantry without trouble.

Unit Costs Edit

Unit production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Food Food and 1 Metal Metal for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is +125% of their original base value. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.

Unique Units Edit

The following nations have a unique unit that replaces Pikemen:
