Unit Information | Game Strategies | History |
Phalanx are the standard Heavy Infantry of the Classical Age, avaliable to upgrade from Hoplites as soon as the age is reached. Like all infantry, Phalanx are trained and upgraded at the Barracks.
Overview
After Hoplites become Phalanx, they gain +25 hit points, +2 attack strength, and +1 Line of Sight.
Unit Costs
Unit production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Food and 1 Metal for the second unit created, and grows exponentially from then on. Upgrading this unit costs double the base cost of the unit it will upgrade to; this means that the upgrade to Pikemen has a cost of 100 Food, 60 Metal. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
Unique Units
The following nations have a unique unit that replaces Phalanx:
- Germans - Barbarians
- Spanish - Scutari
- Romans - Legions
- Iroquois - Mohawk Spearmen
- Japanese - Bushi
- Persians - Anusiya
Trivia
- A Phalanx is an ancient Greek military term for massed formation of soldiers moving in unison, usually armed with spears. It became mainly associated with the famous Macedonian Phalanx, but the game's European style Phalanx looks like Hoplites better armed than before their upgrade.
