Light Cavalry is the standard Light Cavalry of the Medieval Age Medieval Age, available to upgrade from the Light Horse and trained at the Stable.

Overview[]

When the Light Horse becomes Light Cavalry, it gains +18 hit points, +1 attack strength, and +1 line of sight.

The fastest combat unit of its age, Light Cavalry excels in direct combat against Light Infantry, Foot Archers, Ranged Cavalry, Artillery Weapons, and Supply Wagons. However, Heavy Cavalry and Heavy Infantry will handily win in a fight.

Although their high speed allows them to pick and choose their engagements, their relatively low health and armor means that all incoming damage (including from buildings, and even the units which Light Cavalry counter) can be significant. For example, Foot Archers will fall quickly once attacked, but their substantial range advantage can allow them to damage Light Cavalry from afar - possibly from behind the safety of other units.

With similar unit matchups, Light Cavalry—and the broader Light Cavalry category in general—are arguably superior to Light Infantry in most roles. The main differences come down to the former's higher speed and superior flanking ability versus the latter's higher durability, ranged attack, and ability to increase the Garrison Power of structures. Additionally, Light Infantry have the unique advantage of their upgrade to Gunpowder Infantry in the next age.
