As human awareness began to expand beyond the boundaries of the frequent and disruptive exigencies of mundane existence, people soon began asking new questions about how the world around them manifested itself. This spirit of inquiry soon manifested itself in the form of natural philosophy, the precursor of "hard science" with its goal being to understand the laws which govern the physical world.
