Description Edit

The Industrial Age is a period in human history that takes place in the mid 19th century to the early 20th century, and marks the rise of industry in the world. Pioneered by Europe, and later America, mass production and mechnanization became the norm. This included the development of steam power and the railroad, which revolutionized transportation. Advances were made in the military as well. Just as gunpowder revolutionized warfare at the time, so did modern firearms such as rifles, machine guns, and chemical warfare. Tanks and aircraft were also used for the first time. All this prompted a change in battle tactics as the "line" formations could no longer be utilized or armies would be quickly cut down. Instead, modern armies were forced to adopt trench warfare to protect their soldiers from murderous artillery fire, which had grown much more accurate and devastating.

The end of the First World War irrevocably destroyed the pre-war status quo and world order. The United States became a world economic and military power, albeit an isolationist one. The British Empire saw its zenith during this period, encompassing Canada, Australia, India, and territory in Africa connected "from the Cape to Cairo." The First World War also left a huge loss of young men in France, which would have telling consequences in the future. It also left Germany embittered and economically shattered, setting the stage for Adolf Hitler to come to power. It also catalyzed the Russian Revolution, which finished with the takeover of the Bolsheviks, leading to the creation of the Soviet Union. The Treaty of Versailles also ended two ancient powers, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire.

Some of the most notable events during this era were World War I this event put the new technology to the test as countries could churn out mass amounts of weapons and armies in a short period of time.

Advancements Edit

After advancing to the Industrial Age, players are given a new palette of buildings to build, technologies to research, and units to create. As semi-automatic and automatic weapons come into play, troop tactics begin to change. Early tanks and armored vehicles and primitive airplanes can now be built, as a new basic resource, oil, is introduced. Also, the rare resources Aluminum, Coal, Rubber, Titanium and Uranium are revealed. New buildings in this age include the Airbase, the Oil Platform, the Oil Well and the Refinery as well as the Statue of Liberty and Taj Mahal wonders. The last government choices in the game are also unlocked in the Industrial Age, Capitalism and Socialism.

The icon of the Industrial Age seems to use a vista of Albert Square, which is located in Manchester, United Kingdom built in the late 19th century.
