The Companion is the Greek unique Heavy Cavalry of the Classical Age. Like all cavalry of the age, it is trained and upgraded at the Stable, and requires the research of Military 2 (Mercenaries) to become avaliable. It replaces the standard Cataphract.
Compared to Cataphracts, Companions have the same basic stats, but move much faster, as they have +6 moves, which translates to about 0.5 tiles faster than Cataphracts, and are even faster than all standard Heavy Cavalry that follows in the next ages. This means that Companions can function as a rapid response unit, almost as much as Light Cavalry, easily outrunning Ranged Cavalry and being even more capable than standard Heavy Cavalry to eliminate the already vulnerable Foot Archers and Light Infantry.
Unit Costs Edit
Unit production cost increases progressively with every Stable unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Wealth and 1 Metal for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is +125% of their original base value. Upgrading this unit costs double the base cost of the unit it will upgrade to; this means that the upgrade to Royal Companion has a cost of 100 Wealth, 120 Metal. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
