The Cataphract is the standard Heavy Cavalry of the Classical Age. Like all cavalry of the age, it is trained and upgraded at the Stable, and requires researching Military 2 (Mercenaries) to become available.
The Cataphract has an advantage against most units, except for Heavy Infantry, and if enough of them can be recruited before the target advances to the Medieval Age (or little after), they can be unstoppable if properly supported, because powerful as they are, they will still need some cover fire against Heavy Infantry (and evasive Ranged Cavalry if present), and company to attack buildings and take over cities, which only infantry can capture.
Unit Costs Edit
Unit production cost increases progressively with every Stable unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Wealth and 1 Metal for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is of +125% their original base value. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
Unique Units Edit
The following nations have a unique unit that replaces the Cataphract:
