Bowmen are the standard Foot Archers of the Ancient Age. Like all infantry, Bowmen are trained and upgraded at the Barracks. Besides the researching of Military 1 (The Art of War) in order to build a Barracks, there is no requirement for recruiting Bowmen.
Overview
Like all Foot Archers, Bowmen are effective against Heavy Infantry, but weak against Light Infantry and Heavy Cavalry. They also make excellent garrisons, increasing a building's garrison power more than other unit types.
Unit Costs
Unit production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Timber and 1 Wealth for the second unit created, and grows exponentially from then on. However, the maximum cost for Bowmen is capped at 90 Timber / 112 Wealth. Upgrading this unit costs double the base cost of the unit it will upgrade to; this means that the upgrade to Archers has a cost of 80 Timber, 100 Wealth. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
