Unit Information Game Strategies History
The Bombard is the standard Artillery Unit of the Gunpowder Age. It is built and upgraded at the Siege Factory.

Unit description Edit

The Bombard, like all other siege, artillery and bombardment units, is used to effectively take out enemy buildings from a safe distance and to bring down a city's defenses, so Infantry and Cavalry units may capture it. The Bombard outranges all defensive structures, including all upgrades of Forts and Towers. It is also somewhat effective in attacking enemy artillery and slow-moving ships. However, despite its ability to deal splash damage, it's pretty useless against other units or even crowds.

While the Bombard moves and deploys slightly faster than it's predecessors, it is still very slow, making it an easy prey for fast-moving units, especially Ranged Cavalry.

Keep in mind that siege and artillery units require a nearby Supply Wagon or a Despot/Monarch/Comrade Patriot to operate at full efficiency - without supply modern artillery reloads and fires only at half rate.

Upgrading Edit

The Bombard upgrades from the Medieval Age Trebuchet. By upgrading, the unit receives +20 hit points, +3 attack strength, +1 attack range, +2 movement speed, and +2 line of sight.

Upgrading costs 160 Timber / 160 Metal plus 10 Timber / 10 Metal per unit existing or in production.

In the Enlightenment Age, the Bombard upgrades to the Cannon.

Production Edit

Production cost increases for every unit of the same type, whether on the field or currently in production, by a fixed +20 Timber Timber / +20 Metal Metal. However, the maximum cost for the Bombard is capped at 180 Timber Timber / 180 Metal Metal (reached with 5 units). Actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
