Compared to the Riflemen, the Black Watch is almost identical with a few notable differences. They are cheaper (10 Food and 10 Timber cheaper) than standard riflemen and are slight faster having +1 moves, but have 4 less hitpoints than riflemen. They also have a +30% attack bonus against other modern/gunpowder infantry and +80% bonus against heavy infantry.
Black Watch are trained and upgraded at the Barracks.
Production cost for this unit increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. However, the maximum cost for Black Watch is capped at 157 Food / 135 Timber. Actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
The Black Watch are based on the 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, which itself is the successor to the 42nd Regiment of Foot which is what the Highlanders unique unit was based on. Their appearance is based on the Black Watch's uniforms during the First World War.
