Balamob Slingers are the Mayan unique Light Infantry of the Ancient Age. Like all infantry, Balamob Slingers are trained and upgraded at the Barracks, replacing the standard Slingers. Besides the researching of Military 1 (The Art of War) in order to build a Barracks, there is no requirement for their recruitment.
Overview
Compared to standard Slingers, Balamob Slingers have the same stats. However, Balamob Slingers excel at defeating all other Light Infantry, as they have a 50% damage bonus against it. This advantage makes them one of the best defensive units in the early game, specially taking into account the Mayan national powers; for in an enemy raid or rush attempt, the enemy's ranged units will be at a crippling disadvantage, while Heavy Infantry, the only real Ancient Age counter to Balamob Slingers, will have to cope with the increased power and toughness of Mayan buildings.
Unit Costs
Unit production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Food and 1 Timber for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is +125% of their original base value. It's important to note, however, that these prices are the default standard, and actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies/ages, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
Trivia
- Balam is the common name for the jaguar in Mayan languages, and "-ob" is a plural suffix, so "Balamob" translates to "jaguars".
