The Armored Cavalry upgrades from the Modern Age Armored Scout Car. By upgrading, the unit receives +18 hit points, +1 attack strength, +1 attack range, +2 movement speed, and +1 line of sight. Armored Cavalry is the final upgrade of the Ranged Cavalry unit line and cannot be upgraded any further.
Production cost for this unit increases progressively with every Auto Plant unit on the field or currently in production. However, the maximum cost for Armored Cavalry is capped at 202 Food / 90 Oil. Actual production and upgrading costs may differ, depending on researched technologies, connected rare resources, or adopted governments.
The Armored Cavalry unit uses two different models, which are based upon real infantry fighting vehicles. The stats are the same for both versions. Depending on the map type chosen, they either use a green woodland or desert paint scheme.
The default model is based on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, an American tracked infantry fighting vehicle, introduced in 1981 as a response to the Soviet BMP and to somewhat replace the older M113 from 1960.
The alternate model is based on the Soviet BMP infantry fighting vehicle (BMP stands for Boyevaya Mashina Pekhoty, meaning 'infantry combat vehicle'), which is in service since 1966 and, unlike the unit in the game, is actually amphibious. In the game, this model is used by the Mongols, Chinese, Russians, Egyptians, Nubians, and Bantu.
